God and "free Will"
Jul. 26th, 2025 04:43 pmI believe in the concept of god serving a collective social and societal purpose. It's a valuable concept which introduces a basic guide to morality and community-consciousness as well as collaborative purpose.
I do not believe in the deity. I don't believe there's an omnipotent, singular being. I believe there's a community-consciousness which can easily be mistaken as an intentional actor... because we're a socially hardwired species genetically evolved to serve and be served by community.
As for individual free will, I firmly believe in Robert Sapolsky's views that we are nothing more than a biological machine perceiving, processing and growing from all our lived experiences and social influences. I don't believe we have free will per se. I believe we have a complex rationalizing mind which is presented billions of inputs to use for decision-making which can lead us to either individual or community survival, thriving and progress... depending on what our lives have taught our minds too prioritize and value.
