Strength

Should have been stronger
Never been the one to get that right
Attempting to guide a blind man toward light
Inability to cope with a lost cause
Strength is a fortune, guidance is flawed
Unknown tests, unknown questions
His words not reaching where they were destined
There was never a way to ask
Not something I should require of a task
There is always a way to do this
Something simple, strength
I never understand, not once
Never have I needed to before
There are heartless creatures
Spreading lies, forcing us to give up
Inspiring belief in what is unwanted
Unheard, but there are others
The ones who hear our calls
They speak silently, answer prayers
Doubt cast away, fear that normal is a law
Held back by those demons no more
I shall surrender myself to an open door
Too late, always, but that is never
When for the future, those devils must be severed

What is the right to live, the rights we share, gifted by our God
What is a right given by our land, our country, the will of man
How does law decide the fate of a human soul, broken or whole
When it is only the will of one from whom a tragedy takes hold
A privilege we all should have from sea to shining sea
Though rights are your possession, they've not found a place with me
Mistakes in life, if theirs or mine, an incidental chance
Turned terrible and tragic, taken, torn from both my hands
A fight is what I'll give them, a battle to be fought
To gain my precious freedom and regain what once was sought
In many places for the years, from teenage to these days
None were ever constant, no home to call or stay
I lost my place amidst the world for drastic moments past
Not weeks or months or years in fact, a decade does it last
Lost have I been, never knowing, my image only for the showing
You must forgive the wind that's blowing, minutes to the hours glowing
Never simple, not my dance, yet to ask for hands to hold, romance
I wish for something here, in hopes your trust will hold a stance
Honest hearts, true vocation, real people in their station
Life has not been something shown, I swear to you it's true you've grown
Yet, I myself have never known, a single piece or undertone
Expectations somehow fall, the failure that once met a call
A beckoned hope that knew it all, their was no time when I stood tall
All torn away from me, not what you see, not free
There is less here now than what I could be
Please, help me to hold my ground, homeward bound
Help me to seek until I have found
I must stand and fight for my given rights
His hand gives as ours should unite
A dim, diminished past, searches for the future's light
It is my will to beg as I once prayed, this earthly challenge made
Never wished for, not okayed, a song to hear as it is played
Have I not earned what could be paid, in all the places I have stayed
Still not discouraged, though betrayed, this beaten heart never swayed
I will walk the path I've chosen, nothing but the truth in offers
Know this now, there's nothing golden, for I have but empty coffers
Nothing to shine, not to find, that wish is not mine
Freedom, a gift that should never have been tossed
Born to such things we are, wishes to be granted at what cost
I ask for nothing but what I should never have lost
Now, I stand, I am this man with outstretched hands
With all that I do, and all that I am
I give you my heart, now and forever began

Unexpectedly redirected, indicating this is nothing more than a dream
Reality is nothing more than sequences it seems
The ones we choose to disengage and step off of the path
Creating only what we wish to see within our past
You have all the things you need to show the world what you can be
You're strong enough to make it past the things they do not see
Our hearts are made to heal, though they do surely bruise
The only time we fail is when we make the choice to lose
Steel yourself for all the moments here to come
For soon there will be light from darkness, stronger than the sun
