What Could Have Been
Dec. 16th, 2019 09:03 amToday I see there isn't much of what we knew of the world
The places we were and the people we shared them with
I'm looking at everything changing and holding onto a dream
So few clear and present reminders that make me catch my breath
Are you still with me sitting above the grass
As laughter flows like liquid through our lungs
A reminder of the short but cherished days we had
It hurts to know these things ended before they'd begun
This one thing I knew would never last
Or at least a thing I believed in as a teen
My arm wrapped gently around you as we smiled
I think of you fondly as a friend I haven't seen
I cherish this life, but I wonder what could have been
The places we were and the people we shared them with
I'm looking at everything changing and holding onto a dream
So few clear and present reminders that make me catch my breath
Are you still with me sitting above the grass
As laughter flows like liquid through our lungs
A reminder of the short but cherished days we had
It hurts to know these things ended before they'd begun
This one thing I knew would never last
Or at least a thing I believed in as a teen
My arm wrapped gently around you as we smiled
I think of you fondly as a friend I haven't seen
I cherish this life, but I wonder what could have been
