I've been thinking of subtle domination concepts people may apply during kink play and sex. It brought me to a broader brainstorm around the very idea of dominance, domination and our society's lack of empathy.

Something glaringly obvious stood out... the act of shushing... just the very act of shushing someone, ever, anywhere... is a dominant action. Even if it's a mother attempting to soothe a baby, that's the mom telling that baby she's got control over something. While intended to be reassuring, that feeling contorts itself for a higher-reasoning being with complex thoughts and consciousness beyond that of a newborn.

Shushing someone is still fundamentally invalidating. Without connection or clarification and even inquiry or empathy... it exercises control.

Unless you know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, exactly what that person is thinking, feeling and entertaining in their mind... it could mentally harm someone, especially people who might be suffering symptoms of a mental health crisis.
