Drugs and Domination
Jul. 21st, 2025 05:56 pmSomething I think is wild is that society is "cool with" alcoholics. They're punished less severely when they hurt people. Society is also okay with sober people but if you're sober, straightedge and self-aware, society immediately forces the concept of parenthood.
Society's cool with sober parents. Society is also very forgiving of alcoholic parents as long as they're parents.
However... sober and childfree? That's a socially unacceptable combo.
I have a theory.
Drug users and alcoholics are predictable. A sober, self-conscious and capable human is a threat to the way this system works. They're not as easy to predict or manage with targeted advertisement suggesting they grab a beer. Smokers, drinkers and drug users have predictable patterns and sources.
Addiction is easy to manage, not for the addicted person but for the system they're part of.
The freedom of being childfree, sober and creatively-minded is almost a threat to this system... it's unpredictable. Unless you shove a caffeine addiction, gaming addiction or TV addiction down that person's throat, you have no control.
This system doesn't want people in touch with themselves and connected to their feelings, especially if they're men.
Now, this isn't all about malevolence. You can also stick different communities together with otherwise nothing in common and give them a liquor bottle then they default. They won't make any progress with one another because their values are so horribly mismatched but they'll get drunk together, sing some songs then leave with a mild hum of "that went well" without realizing they've just sacrificed time they'll never get back which could have been spent finding like-minded, inspired individuals with whom they could reach their dreams and accomplish something.
...because we're a socially wired species. We're designed for connection, from a basic biological lens.
As long as we're bonding, we don't mind how... and drugs and alcohol can lubricate that bond. These things can also destroy people who need to consume so much it destroys them before they feel half-full.
BUT
...it's a predictable suffering.
